The short answer is: yes, it’s possible — but it depends on a few important factors. And we believe in being straight with you about what’s realistic.
At Intensive Driving Courses Sheffield, we’ve helped learners pass their tests in a week. We’ve also helped learners who needed a little longer achieve exactly the same result. Here’s an honest look at what a one-week course actually involves and whether it might work for you.
How is it possible to pass in just one week?
A one-week intensive course typically involves six to eight hours of driving per day over five to seven consecutive days. That’s a total of 30 to 40-plus hours of tuition — equivalent to several months of weekly lessons, compressed into a single week.
The brain responds well to immersive, repeated learning. Skills practised daily are consolidated faster, and because there’s no significant gap between sessions, progress is far more consistent. Combined with a practical test booking at the end of the week, it creates a genuine pathway to a full licence in around seven days.
Who is passing in a week realistic for?
Passing in a week is most achievable for learners who:
- Already have some prior driving experience — even informal practice on private land counts
- Hold a current, valid theory test pass certificate
- Are confident learners who pick up practical skills relatively quickly
- Can fully commit to the week, both physically and mentally
For complete beginners with no previous experience at all, a week is technically possible but genuinely demanding. A 40-hour course spread over one to two weeks is more common for brand-new learners, and the extra time makes a real difference to confidence and consistency on test day.
What does a typical intensive week look like?
A one-week course in Sheffield is intensive by name and nature. A typical day might look like this:
- Morning session: Two to three hours covering specific skills — junctions, roundabouts, road positioning, manoeuvres
- Midday break: Time to rest, eat, and let the morning session settle mentally
- Afternoon session: Two to three more hours building on the morning’s work and introducing new elements
By the end of the week, you’ll have covered the full range of required manoeuvres, driven across a wide variety of Sheffield roads, and be prepared to face your examiner with real confidence.
What about the test itself?
Your practical test is booked for towards the end of your intensive week. Our instructors know Sheffield’s test routes — both Middlewood and Handsworth — thoroughly, so you’ll have driven the likely routes during your course. That familiarity makes a significant difference to nerves on test day.
What if I don’t pass first time?
It happens, even to well-prepared learners. If you don’t pass first time, we’ll debrief your test with you, identify the specific areas to work on, and help you get booked in for a resit as quickly as possible. Many learners pass on their second attempt after a focused session or two targeting the exact issues from their first test.
